Ayurveda transformed my life from sickness to health. If you've ever read anything about Ayurveda or living an Ayurvedic lifestyle, it can appear extremely complicated. But I'm going to show you that it doesn't have to be.
My name is Michelle Fondin and I'm the author of The Wheel of Healing with Ayurveda: An Easy Guide to a Healthy Lifestyle , The Secrets of The Wheel of Healing: An 8 CD Audio Program with Workbook and owner of The Ayurvedic Path studio in Herndon, VA, and a Chopra Center Vedic Master. But I wasn't always this healthy or balanced.
In 1999, at age 28, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I thought I had been living a rather healthy lifestyle. I ate broccoli daily, shopped at Whole Foods Market, taught aerobics and only partied on the weekends. This devastating news set me back as fear took over. At such a young age I was faced with my own mortality. I also had two small children at the time, ages 5 and 18 months, who needed me to be there for them. I felt my life had barely begun and here it was maybe ending.
Western medicine, after surgery and radioactive iodine treatment, had little to offer in the way of wellness. I wanted to make sure I never got cancer or any other tragic disease ever again. I knew that if I didn't balance my life, something was certain to go wrong again in the future.
Different books on diet and exercise only gave partial answers. Nothing, it appeared to me, was complete in addressing wellness as a whole, in every aspect of my life.
I was introduced to an Ayurvedic lifestyle and my whole world changed. Instead of bracing myself for cancer to come again or any other illness for that matter, I felt in control of my health. I knew there were many things I could do to stay healthy on a daily basis and to detect imbalance in my health before disease ever has a chance of developing. Being a complete medical system, Ayurveda addresses lifestyle balance in every aspect from physical and emotional to spiritual and relationships.
The best thing about Ayurveda is that it doesn't require you to go to extremes. In fact, any diet, exercise or health program that asks you to go to extremes is obviously not balanced.
Another thing I trust about Ayurveda is that it has withstood the test of time. Something that lasts for 5,000 years must have some validity.

The book is amazingly written. For someone starting from scratch, the book is a great introduction to the great system of Ayurveda. Ayurveda states that a balance of the three elemental substances, the Doshas equals health, while imbalance equals disease. There are three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. The book goes into details of the system. I have been on a organic plant based diet for few months and see tremendous improvements in my well-being. The author also emphasizes on diet front to consume organic foods as much as possible. These days we have pollutants everywhere. Living a healthy pure life has become a challenge. The book takes us to root of Ayurveda over 5000 years old medical system. While good books on this subject are rare, this book is a welcome addition to the library. I really hope the author finds great success which means people understand their holistic life better eventually improving the planet. I was provided a book to review, since I am very much into this area, I willingly said yes! Book has detailed reference section, chapters are highly readable for any level of reader.

The Wheel of Healing is a common-sense, easy to read, approach to balancing your life. It helps you really look deeply at your life, recognize areas where one may need improvement and provide support and advice on way to achieve your goals. This is one book that I will refer back to for many years to come. Michelle's life journey to her own healing is inspiring and motivates me to live my best life.
